2009-10 UEFA Europa League

(Click for:    Appearances & Goals    back to Everton's Results    Final League Table and Cup Winners    Red & Yellow Cards)

From 2009-10 the UEFA Cup was replaced by the Europa League.   Everton's first match in the new competition was a two-legged play-off tie against Sigma Olomouc of the Czech Republic, which we won 5-1 on aggregate.

This meant qualification for the Group Stage - 48 teams divided into 12 groups of 4 teams, facing each other home and away, with Everton drawn in Group I.   The top two sides in each group then joined the 8 third-placed sides from the Champions League group stage in the Round of 32, with Everton drawn against Sporting Lisbon.

From the last 32 until the semi-finals, the tournament reverted to the knock-out format (using the traditional aggregate score from home and away matches).  The final was played in Germany at SV Hamburg's Arena Hamburg Stadium on 12th May 2010.
