After beating Metalist Kharkiv of the Ukraine in the 1st Round, Everton were drawn in Group A at the UEFA Cup Group Stage.

There were 8 groups all containing 5 teams. The teams played each other once and each team got 2 home and 2 away matches.

The top 3 teams in each group qualified for the 1st Knock-Out Round, where they were joined by the 8 teams that finished in 3rd place in each UEFA Champions League Group, making a total of 32 teams. The knock-out format (using the traditional aggregate score from home and away matches) then continues onto the final which is to be played at the City of Manchester Stadium on 14th May 2008.
